Many of us have used our tablets to log on to free wifi somewhere or other, but are we tempting fate by using a credit card on an unsecured internet connection? Mark Kanok, contributor to mobilesecurity.com, explains the risks as well as what you can do to minimize them.
Something that you may not know is that when you connect your iPhone to your Mac, you can actually update the operating system on your phone. And it's more than just getting newfeatures and maybe the phone getting faster. Oftentimes, Apple will actually packagesecurity updates that are very, very important to how the phone works, how the email works,and how the browser works, to make sure it's protected against any kind of systemvulnerabilities or any issues with the code.
A lot of these patches that Apple makes, they won't actually tell you what they're doing. Butthey do to address security concerns. So it does make sense every once in awhile toconnect your phone to the Mac and do a check for update.
Or if you really want to be cool and wily, go in your preferences and say Update Over the Air,through Wi-Fi. And that's a new feature in iOS 5, where you can download the new securityupdates, and the entire iOS updates through your internet connection. But it's a lot faster toplug it into your Mac.
