Watch as Dave Cole, Vice President of Norton Mobile and panelist on today's Mobile Security Forum at Mobile World Congress 2012, talks about the explosion in mobile devices and the concerns with personal information sharing.
Hi, I'm Zoya with Norton. And I'm here today with Dave Cole, vice president of mobile forNorton by Symantec. So Dave, thank you for joining us today.
Thanks for having me.
So Dav was just on the panel. And we're very excited to know what are the concerns for folksin mobile today?
Sure, so we've heard pretty clearly over time that mobile is a top concern for people. But it'sdifferent than what it was like on the PC, which we just spoke about on the panel. Of coursethere's mobile malware. And we have to protect consumers against that.
And consumers are rightfully concerned about that. But the bigger concern is all the privatestuff, all the personal information that's on your phones, the contacts, the text messages, thephotos, the videos, the digital wallet that will be this soon, if you believe everything you hear at Mobile World Congress. M-commerce is coming in and soon to be here.
So helping them protect that and feel like that's safe and private is incredibly important tothem. So we think that's important. Protecting the device, protecting the person is incrediblyimportant.
But beyond that, also the element of privacy is incredibly important to them too. So whatdoes that mean? Well, with the bulk of the apps out there being free, a lot of those aremonetized indirectly by ads and so forth. And this isn't about just deleting those apps and soforth, but it's about helping consumers make responsible choices about their privacy in away that they can understand, which is not easy. That is not an easy task.
And lastly, really privacy and security pale in comparison to some of the safetyconsiderations that mobile brings up. So keeping families safe, keeping children safe, particularly me as a new father, that's a huge importance, even over security and privacy, which are critical. So there's such a rich environment with mobile, and so many opportunitiesfor us there and for the entire industry, that we really feel like we're just at the beginning.
Well, thank you, Dave, so much for joining us today. And make sure you check outmobilesecurity.com to get more information. Thanks.
